What is Hard Water?

What is hard water, you ask?  Water hardness is a result of certain minerals such magnesium, manganese, iron and calcium being dissolved in the hard water making it difficult to form lather with soaps. Hard water is not just the presence of minerals, as water softener use sodium minerals in order to change the water hardness and make it soft.  Magnesium and Calcium are found in much higher concentrations in natural water sources than the rest and are often the ones that most people associate with hard water. In many cases you can feel the hardness of water in the shower..
